Backyard Fun Pools

Did You Know?

* Your salt pool is still a chlorine pool.  In fact, depending on bather load and usage, there may be times where you could benefit from shocking your pool with a granular chlorine, such as after a pool party.  As an alternative, you can choose to "Super Chlorinate" with a simple flip of the switch on your control box.  Doing so, prompts the system to continually produce chlorine for 24 hours.

*Salt levels in your pool are nearly equivalent to the salinity of a human tear.  The ideal salt range for a pool is
2500-3500 ppm.  A human tear is 3500 ppm, and the ocean is greater than 35,000 ppm.

* Your salt system will not operate efficiently in cooler temperatures.   When outside temperatures reach 50-60 degrees, your salt system only operates at 20% output.  In cold water temperatures, the production of chlorine becomes a chore, causing the unit to work harder than usual.  As a defense mechanism to prolong the life of the cell, the unit slows down production.

* Adding salt to your pool does not raise your chlorine levels.   Adding salt only raises the salinity of the water.  Chlorine production is controlled by the dial on your control box.

* Each pool is unique and chlorine output is based on individual demand.  The dial on your control box regulates chlorine production and is based on percentages.  If we set it to 30, we are telling the unit to operate or produce chlorine only 30% of the day.  What works for your pool may not work for others.  There is not a standard setting for all pools, and the dial may need adjusted periodically throughout the season, especially when swimming pool usage is higher or in the heat of the summer.

*Salt pools still need to be tested and chemically treated.  Your salt pool will likely look fantastic all the time, making it easy to ignore.  It is important to remember though that clear water does not necessarily mean good water.  Proper water balance is always needed to protect your swimmers, your pool, and the pool equipment.
